Step aboard Reef Encounter, our luxury 35 metre catamaran designed for stability at sea. Our staterooms are either double or twin, with large windows overlooking the Great Barrier Reef all with private ensuite bathrooms

All meals onboard Reef Encounter are prepared fresh by our onboard Chef,  we take great pride in providing our guests delicious and nutritious meals.

Reef Encounter crew are hand picked for their level of customer service, they all share a passion for the Great Barrier Reef.  Our crew will  be happy to assist you at all time whilst you are onboard Reef Encounter.

We take many people to the Great Barrier Reef who are not comfortable in the water, our crew will be happy to assist you and in some cases for guests who can’t swim, our crew will swim for our guests while they hold onto a life ring.

Great Barrier Reef 2 Day liveaboard  Itinerary

Itinerary is subject to change without notice. Reef Encounter visits between two to three different dive and snorkel locations per day based on the optimal weather conditions. All times and locations are subject to change and are at the discretion of the Captain, for the comfort and welfare of our passengers and the ship.

Day One


Board the transfer vessel ‘Reef Experience’ at Cairns Marlin Marina for breakfast, check-in and your journey to Reef Encounter


Arrive onboard Reef Encounter for your ‘Welcome & Safety Talk’ before being shown to your room to settle in and relax


Water Session: Time to snorkel for all guests before lunch


Lunch is served in the dining saloon


Water Briefings: Certified Diver Briefings / Try Scuba Diving Briefings / Snorkel Adventure Briefings


Water Session: Scuba dive or snorkel time


Water Session: Scuba dive or snorkel time. Glass bottom boat tour available upon request


Dinner is served in the dining saloon


Night Dive Briefings


Night dive commences for all those scuba diving


Desert is served in the dining saloon

after dinner you may like to watch a movie, play some board games or our sun deck is a great place for stargazing most nights you will be able to clearly see the Southern Cross – ask our crew to see the  astronomy books onboard.

Day Two (2)


Wake-up call for the early morning dive and snorkel session


Water Session: Sunrise scuba dive or snorkel time. Glass bottom boat tour available upon request


Breakfast is served in the dining saloon

Departing passengers board the transfer vessel ‘Reef Experience’ for the journey back to Cairns. Complimentary wine, cheese and biscuits served before the return journey

Certified Scuba Divers

Reef Encounter’s 2 day 1 night certified scuba dive tours include 5 day dives and 1 night dive

For certified scuba divers, dive sites range between 8 meters (25 feet) to 30 meters (100 feet) depending on each divers qualification and experience.

Enjoy underwater swim-throughs, beautiful coral drop-offs and schools of multi-coloured fish.

For certified divers experienced Dive Guides are available for each dive at an additional cost, or certified divers can choose to buddy up and dive together with other passengers.

Modern dive equipment including dive computers are included for every certified diver.


Reef Encounter caters to snorkelers of all abilities. Experienced snorkellers are free to explore the reef at their own pace  and will find an abundance of fish and other marine life in colourful coral formations close to the boat.

Each reef location offers different areas to explore and site briefings are given by friendly crew before each snorkel session to let you know the best spots!

For those not so confident in the water, friendly crew are are available free of charge as snorkel guides who can assist with swimming to ensure you see as much as you can on every snorkel tour.

Try Scuba Diving

(no-experience necessary). Test the water on a ‘Try Resort Scuba Diving‘ trip.

Our 2 day 1 night Liveaboard resort dive package includes 5 introductory scuba dives

Beginners can try scuba diving in calm and shallow lagoons full of tropical marine life that are ideally located close to the boat so that you can get used to the feeling of the underwater world in a safe and fun environment.

All resort dives are guided in small groups of no more than four passengers to one experienced Scuba Diving Instructor.

A try diving trip is simply the best way for those who don’t have any prior scuba training to get up close and personal with the reef creatures and even have the option to try scuba diving in the dark on a Resort Night Dive!

Reef Encounter is a leading dive training vessel, specialising in dive courses from Open Water Diver level all the way through to professional level Dive Master and Scuba Instructor.

Just starting out?

Take the plunge and learn to scuba dive with one of Reef Encounters Open Water scuba dive Courses and become a qualified scuba diver during your Great Barrier Reef trip.

Those already certified can take their diving qualification to the next level and join an Advanced Adventure Course during their stay.
